MYSORE ASHTANGA
Your practice, your pace
The Mysore method is the traditional way of learning Ashtanga yoga. You practice your own sequence at your own pace while the teacher moves through the room giving individual instruction, hands-on adjustments and corrections.
This is not a follow-along class. You are building a practice that belongs to you — one posture at a time, under careful guidance. Suitable for complete beginners and experienced practitioners alike.
Day one — come as you are. Tell the teacher you are new. You will be taught the first posture of the sequence and the breath that goes with it. Nothing more. You build from there.
Mon . Tue . Wed. Thu. 5:00am - 8:30am

LED CLASSES
The practice, together
Led classes at Samyama are not one format. Gowrisha leads two distinct types of class — Ashtanga Led and Strength & Mobility — offered across the month in a rotating schedule.
Ashtanga Led classes follow the traditional sequence — Half Primary, Full Primary, Intermediate, or Select — called by the teacher with breath count. The group moves together. Two to three sessions a month. Strength & Mobility Led classes are calisthenics and free-exercise based — functional strength, joint health and movement range. Designed to complement the yoga practice and address what an aggressive asana practice alone can miss. One to two sessions a month. Both formats are suitable for students at different stages. New students are welcome to attend Led classes once they have a basic familiarity with the practice.
Day one — arrive a few minutes early. Let the teacher know you are new to Led format. Follow what you know, rest when you need to. The class is not a test.
Fri 6:00 am to 7:30am. Entry closes at 5:55am
The monthly Led schedule is posted on PracticeNow. Check the calendar before attending.

VIPASSANA MEDITATION
The mind needs training too
Vipassana — as taught by the Buddha — is the practice of observing the reality of the mind through non-judgmental awareness of breath and sensation. It is the foundation of all mindfulness practices, and we teach it from the source.
No prior meditation experience needed. Two sessions each month pair one hour of sitting practice with a story or teaching from the Buddha's path. A third session goes deeper — exploring complex aspects of the teachings that illuminate the practice and give students a sense of the path ahead.
The Vipassana Path plan gives you access to all meditation and Saturday Vipassana sessions at no cost. Come and see if it resonates.
ay one — sit comfortably, observe your breath. The teacher will guide you through the basics of the technique. Nothing is expected of you except your attention.

PRACTICE FOUNDATIONS
What the manuals don't cover
Once a month on a Saturday, the class steps back from the mat and goes deeper into the knowledge system that underpins everything we do. This is where the practice becomes intelligent rather than mechanical.
Sessions cover a deliberately wide range — kriyas such as Neti, Kapalabhati and Dhauti, breathing techniques and pranayama, aspects of hatha yoga that rarely appear in a regular class, the role of strength and mobility in a sustainable practice, and concepts from the Buddha's teachings that directly support what happens on the mat.
These are the things that most practitioners spend years not knowing. Practice Foundations exists to change that.
Open to all students. No prior knowledge required.
Come with curiosity. These sessions are participatory — you will practice, not just observe. Bring a notebook if that helps you.
One Saturday per month. 6:00am to 7:15am

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
We have heard every concern. Here are honest answers.
I have never done yoga before.
Good. You start with the basics and build from there. Every serious practitioner was once a beginner. The Mysore method is designed for exactly this — you are never thrown into a sequence you haven't been taught.
I am not flexible enough.
Flexibility is a result of practice, not a requirement for it. You do not need to be flexible to begin. You need to be willing to show up.
I tried yoga before and it didn't feel right.
Most yoga taught today is a group class where the teacher demonstrates and the room follows. That format doesn't suit everyone. At Samyama you are taught individually — what you practice is specific to your body, not averaged across a room of twenty people.
I am not sure I can commit to early mornings
The early morning practice is part of the discipline — not a punishment. Most students find that once the habit forms, the morning practice becomes the most grounded part of their day. Start with what you can manage and build from there.
I am interested in meditation but not yoga.
The Vipassana Path plan is free and includes all meditation and Saturday Vipassana sessions. You do not need to practice yoga to meditate with us. Begin there and see where it leads.
I already have an established practice. Will this work for me?
Yes. The Mysore method accommodates all levels simultaneously. Advanced students practice their full sequence while beginners work on fundamentals — in the same room, at the same time, each under individual instruction.
I want to lose weight
We will be honest with you — weight loss cannot be the goal of this practice. Ashtanga is physically demanding and you will build real strength and fitness, but weight is determined by many factors beyond what happens on the mat. What the practice does reliably is build awareness — of your body, your breath, your habits and your choices. Most students find that this awareness gradually influences the rest of their lives. Sleep improves. Eating becomes more considered. Stress reduces. Whether weight loss follows is up to you and the choices you make off the mat. But the awareness that makes those choices possible — that we can help with.
